Our Mission

A brief introduction to the mission, method, and motivation of the Catholic Studies Guide....

The Catholic Studies Guide seeks to provide seekers an opportunity to enrich their lives through a focused engagement with the history, theology, philosophy, traditions, teachings, and cultural legacies of the Catholic Church by engaging Her official teaching documents. We invite our readers to join us as we take part in the ancient and ongoing conversation between the Church and the various cultures of the world. In seeking to understand and more fully appreciate the relationship between the eternal truths of the Catholic Faith and their various expressions in time and place, we strive to faithfully and rigorously respond to Pope John Paul II’s call for “a fruitful dialogue between the Gospel and culture” (Ex Corde Ecclesiae, Part I A.3:43).

The Catholic Studies Guide takes as its model the Incarnation, a monumental historical event that speaks to men and women of all times and places. The theme of Incarnation, i.e., the embodiment of God in the world, pervades our quest to search for and celebrate the eternal truths of the Catholic faith in the variety of its concrete expressions throughout history. Our explorations incorporate, but are not limited to, the disciplines of art history, literature, languages, history, philosophy, and theology.

As a method of approach, we at the Catholic Studies Guide ground ourselves in the magisterial teaching of the Church since it establishes the foundation for understanding the truths of the Faith and provides a steady guide for interpreting Catholicism in the course of history, especially as it has unfolded throughout the course of Western civilization.
